An important milestone has been reached in the redevelopment of the Kings Meadows Community Health Centre, with a Development Application submitted to the City of Launceston.
The Tasmanian Government is delivering a staged redevelopment of the Centre to transform it into a new, fit-for-purpose health facility that meets the future needs of the community.
The Australian Government is providing $10 million in funding as part of the Community Health and Hospitals Program (CHHP) for the project.
Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Guy Barnett, said he was pleased to see Stage 1 of the Kings Meadows Community Health Centre redevelopment a step closer.
“The first stage of the redevelopment will see the existing Joan Marshall building demolished and replaced with a new, larger, Renal Health Centre supporting expanded renal service delivery. Car park and building surrounds will also be upgraded,” Minister Barnett said.
“Following extensive building condition assessments, it became clear that a staged replacement of the Kings Meadows Community Health Centre is the best way to deliver fit-for-purpose healthcare facilities for the benefit of the community.
“Subject to a final design and achieving regulatory approvals, construction of the new Joan Marshall building is expected to begin in mid-2025, and the centre is expected to open in 2026.
“Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future we are working hard to build an even better healthcare system.”
The Tasmanian Government is committed to working closely with stakeholders and the community as the project develops.
