Eric Abetz, Minister for Transport

We’re working hard towards improving our public transport system across the State as part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.

Metro has determined that from today, Wednesday 18 September, there will be a full restoration of services to the Gagebrook and Herdsmans Cove areas.

Minister for Transport, Eric Abetz, said that services have progressively been brought back as safety has permitted and pleasingly, due to current safety measures there has been a reduction in rock-throwing incidents throughout the areas.

“The full restoration of services is excellent news for the residents of these communities," Minister Abetz said.

“We recognise the impact that the cessation of services has had on those members of the community who rely on buses and do the right thing. However, the safety of both bus drivers and passengers is paramount and we acknowledge the hard work Metro has done in ensuring this.

“Any acts of criminal behaviour that occur on, around or to our buses is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Metro will continue to work closely with Tasmania Police to monitor and respond to safety incidents should they occur.

“I thank Tasmanians for their patience as Metro has adjusted Gagebrook/Herdsmans Cove services to prioritise the safety of its staff and customers.”
