Our inspiring Olympic and Paralympic athletes will be welcomed home at a free public event in Launceston.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said the Tasmanian Government, in partnership with the City of Launceston, the Australian Olympic Committee and Paralympics Australia, would host the special event at Riverbend Park on Saturday, September 21.
“Tasmania excels in all sporting areas and our efforts in Paris were no different with six medals claimed by our inspirational Tasmanian Olympic and Paralympic athletes,” Premier Rockliff said.
“We are very excited to welcome home and celebrate our fellow Tasmanians who have done us proud in the green and gold.
“I encourage Tasmanians to come along and show their support for the talented men and women who represented our country at the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
Launceston Mayor Mathew Garwood said the celebrations would include a chance to meet our incredible athletes and learn more about their Paris experience.
“The Launceston community is incredibly proud of our Olympic and Paralympic athletes' success in Paris and our Olympic spirit has never been stronger,” Mayor Garwood said.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for all of us to come together at Riverbend Park and give our inspirational athletes the welcome home they deserve.”
The Olympic and Paralympic Team Welcome Home event will be held at Riverbend Park, Launceston, from 11am to 12pm.
The final list of athletes attending will be announced closer to the event. |
