Nick Duigan, Minister for Parks and Environment
An online search portal providing easier access to information from Tasmania’s environmental regulator has been launched.
Minister for Parks and Environment, Nick Duigan, said this is an important step forward to modernising the state’s environmental regulation monitoring.
“The public are now able to search for relevant environmental monitoring information at the click of a button,” Minister Duigan said.
“This gives Tasmanian industries certainty about their operating conditions, and the public confidence in the EPA’s role as an independent regulator and manager of environmental monitoring information.
“The new portal improves transparency and allows public scrutiny of important information about the environmental effects of industries operating in Tasmania.”
Minister Duigan said independent and robust environmental assessment and regulation is an essential part of Tasmania’s planning and approvals system.
“A modern and transparent regulatory system is important to Tasmania’s economy and provides assurance for businesses and the community,” Minister Duigan said.
An important part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future is to make our state the best place to live, work and raise a family. This portal is about achieving that.
Release of Environmental Monitoring Information Project has started with releasing Annual Environmental Reviews and Environmental Management Plans, with additional environmental monitoring information being added to the portal on an ongoing basis.
Relevant information that may be released includes any test or measurement results or analysis, reports of environmental conditions, photographs or audio/visual recordings required under a licence or permit.
The launch follows amendments to the Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994 (the Act) which provides the EPA Director with the discretion to release certain forms of environmental monitoring information.
An existing online search form on the EPA’s website remains available for the public to make requests for environmental monitoring information.
