The Tasmanian Liberal Government is building the future of Tasmanian students, with construction of the new Brighton High School now complete.
Our Government is committed to delivering the facilities our students deserve, with the 2024-25 Budget including record investment in education as part of our $188 million School Building Blitz.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said the newly constructed Brighton High School will accommodate up to 600 students in one of Tasmania’s fastest growing areas.
“Brighton is a thriving community and this school will cater for the growing number of local students,” the Premier said.
“The Brighton High School is Tasmania’s biggest public education infrastructure project in more than a decade and is an example of our Government’s commitment to delivering contemporary school infrastructure for Tasmanian students to learn and thrive.
“Our 2024-25 Budget drives the delivery of the 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future by securing major upgrades for 15 schools across the State.”
Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said the development of Brighton High School has been shaped through community consultation.
“We sought input from students, educators and the local community about what they wanted to see in a new school and I look forward to seeing it come alive as students start their journey next year,” Minister Palmer said.
“We know that education is the most powerful driver for improving economic and social outcomes in Tasmania.
“Our Government is investing in a School Building Blitz that will see every region of Tasmania benefit from new and improved facilities, including Clarence High School, Dodges Ferry Primary School, Mowbray Heights Primary School and Deloraine High School.”
As part of the 2024-25 Budget, our Government is also investing $16 million for a School Improvement Program to ensure we’re able to respond to school maintenance and improvement needs, and $10 million for playground and sports court upgrades in schools.
The new Brighton High School features modern and architecturally designed facilities, including a multi-purpose hall, performing arts space, gymnasium, commercial kitchen and café, outdoor learning street and technologies space.
The school will accommodate students in Years 7-12 and will open in 2025 to Year 7 and Year 11 students, following an enrolment expressions of interest process.
Subsequent year levels will follow on as the inaugural students progress.
