Roger Jaensch, Minister for Community Services

The Tasmanian Government has committed to continuing its strong support for the Tasmanian Men’s Sheds Association and the role Men’s Sheds play in helping Tasmanians.

Minister for Community Services, Roger Jaensch, said Men’s Sheds are places for Tasmanian men to share, learn, support each other, or just work side-by-side.

“We recognise the impact Men’s Sheds have in communities and the role of the Tasmanian Men’s Sheds Association (TMSA) in supporting and advocating for 71 sheds across the State," Minister Jaensch said.

“They are a standout success story in social engagement, preventative health and lifelong learning.

“As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, the Tasmanian Liberal Government has committed increased funding in the Budget at $200,000 per year for the next two years.

“Importantly, this funding increase will allow the TMSA to expand the role of the Executive Officer and recruit a regional coordinator.

“To enable the Men’s Sheds to continue their good work on the ground, the Tasmanian Government has committed funding of $175,000 a year for two years to support the replacement of tools and equipment as well as health and wellbeing programs at the sheds.

“$1 million will also be provided for shed builds and upgrades so sheds are safe and fit-for-purpose.

"We look forward to working with the TMSA and individual sheds around the State and thank the TMSA and all of our Men’s Sheds for the important work they do.”
