Jeremy Rockliff, Minister for Trade & Major Investment

Innovative biotechnology company, Marinova, has been named the 2024 Tasmanian Exporter of the Year at the 30th Tasmanian Export Awards.
Premier and Minister for Trade and Major Investment, Jeremy Rockliff, said the awards at Devonport’s Paranaple Centre recognised the innovation, resilience, and global success of Tasmanian exporters across various industries.

“Our exporters continue to go from strength to strength, with the industry injecting almost $6 billion into the Tasmanian economy last financial year,” Premier Rockliff said.

“As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we are unlocking more export opportunities for Tasmanian businesses to support our economy, boost our global reputation and create local jobs.”

This year’s top honour, the Exporter of the Year Award, was presented to Marinova, a biotechnology company specialising in compounds from select species of brown seaweed.

Premier Rockliff praised Marinova for its contribution to the state’s economy and role promoting Tasmania on the world stage.

“Marinova exports to the US, Taiwan, Germany, Malaysia and New Zealand,” he said.

“This Tasmanian company is a fantastic example of a pioneering, world-leading organisation that is showcasing its products and services to the world.
“These awards highlight the exceptional talent and hard work of our local businesses.

Their success keeps our economy strong, creates jobs and elevates Tasmania’s reputation on the global stage.”

As a world leader in fucoidan science, Marinova specialises in the research, development, and production of highly bioactive seaweed extracts for the betterment of human health.

As winner of the Tasmanian Exporter of the Year award, Marinova will have access to a grant of up to $10,000 to attend an international trade show or event, or join a Government trade mission.

All 11 national category winners at this year’s export awards will go on to represent Tasmania at the National Export Awards, 20 November in Canberra.
