Nick Duigan, Minister for Sport and Events

The Devonport sport precinct has reached an exciting milestone overnight, meaning work can now get underway.

The Tasmanian Government welcomes Devonport City Council’s decision to approve the development application.

Minister for Sports and Events, Nick Duigan, said the $60 million development is exciting for all sports on the North West Coast.

“This development is about giving the region access to state-of-the-art sporting facilities,” Minister Duigan said.

“This will allow seven different sporting codes to get involved in sport right on their doorstep.

“The facilities will include significant upgrades to the Devonport Oval, a new four-court community-use facility plus the two court/show court and events centre, outdoor netball and basketball courts, and indoor cricket and high-performance training facilities.”

This partnership with the Tasmanian Government, Council and Federal Government to deliver new, fit-for-purpose and expanded indoor court infrastructure for Devonport and the greater region, is part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.

“The Devonport Oval and Indoor Sports Complex will provide fantastic opportunities for the whole community to keep active, which is part of our Government’s aim to get more Tasmanians involved in sport and active recreation,” Minister Duigan said.

“I look forward to seeing construction of this exciting development get underway.”

The Tasmanian Government, through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, is investing $25 million into the project.
