Tasmania’s North is set to be a destination of choice for business events.
This week, more than a dozen business conference organisers will undertake a tour of northern Tasmania, hosted by Business Events Tasmania.
The group will visit iconic Northern Tasmanian businesses with a view to book future events in the region.
Liberal Member for Bass, Rob Fairs, said the Tasmanian Government’s 2030 Visitor Economy Strategy outlines our commitment to invest in and support a sustainable and successful events and business events sector.
“Our Government has invested an additional $1.2 million in Business Events Tasmania over two years to help attract new events to the State, as part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future,” Mr Fairs said.
“Business events and conferences are great for local businesses, they foster national and international recognition of the Tasmanian brand, and showcase the breadth of what our State has to offer.
“Business events inject $199 million to the Tasmanian visitor economy annually and account for almost 52,000 visitors to Tasmania each year.
“Beyond the measurable economic benefits of business events, conference connections underpin knowledge creation and exchange.
“Conference connections also attract global talent, encourage trade and investment, nurture collaboration, foster innovation and provide significant social benefits.”
Business Events Tasmania CEO, Marnie Craig, said the visit to Tasmania was one of three business conference showcase Business Events Tasmania had organised before the end of December.
“Over their three-day stay, operators will get to experience Launceston and Hobart conference venues, restaurants and experiences, including kayaking the Tamar River, a tour of Waverley Mills, tasting at Callington Distillery and exploring Mona,” Ms Craig said.
“We have carefully curated the program to showcase how Tasmania can cater to their next business event.”
Ms Craig said these showcases focused on in-house event planners from the corporate and association business event market.
“Future showcases will target Professional Conference organisers and international planners with the both the North West Coast and East Coast to feature in the itinerary,” she said.
“Previous programs had proved extremely popular, providing an ROI of $84 for every $1 spent.”
Mr Fairs said northern Tasmania was the ideal area for business events.
“We are so fortunate in this state to be able to offer such diverse visitor experiences across our state,” Mr Fairs said.
“Northern Tasmania boasts so many authentic experiences with its world-class wineries, fresh produce, pristine wilderness and unique wildlife, and fascinating local history – there is something for everyone.”
