The Judicial Commissions Bill 2024 has passed the Legislative Council.
The Judicial Commissions Bill 2024 establishes a framework for the management of judicial complaints in Tasmania.
The Legislative Council passed amendments, meaning the Bill must now return to the House of Assembly before it is passed.
Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Guy Barnett, said that this was a step closer to delivering a fit-for-purpose and contemporary system for addressing complaints about judicial officers.
“We’re continually looking for ways in which we can improve, modernise and refine Tasmania’s legal system,” the Attorney-General said.
“The passage of the Judicial Commissions Bill through the Legislative Council is a solid step towards delivering that.
“I want to thank all stakeholders involved in this process – it has been a thorough and extensive process resulting in robust legislation.
“Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future our Government will continue to deliver strong legislative outcomes to improve the lives of all Tasmanians.”
