Roger Jaensch, Minister for Children and Youth
The Tasmanian Government is pleased to announce the appointment of Isabelle Crompton as Interim Commissioner for Children and Young People, in the lead up to the formation of a new standalone Commission for Children and Young People in 2025.
The Government is developing legislation to establish a new statutory Commission for Children and Young People as part of its response to the Commission of Inquiry recommendations.
Minister for Children and Youth, Roger Jaensch, noted the importance of stability and continuity for the current Commissioner role while the new legislation is being finalised.
“Nothing is more important than the safety and wellbeing of our children and young people,” Minister Jaensch said.
“It is important to ensure continuity for them while the Parliament works through this process.
“Ms Crompton is highly experienced in social and legal policy issues, and I look forward to continuing to work closely with her on advancing the best interests of children and young people.”
Ms Crompton has served as Acting Commissioner for Children and Young People following the resignation of former Commissioner Leanne McLean in July.
She has worked in the Office of the Commissioner for Children and Young People since 2011, initially in a policy role and then as Director.
Ms Crompton’s interim appointment commences on 12 October 2024.
The Tasmanian Liberal Government, under the 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, will continue to develop stronger communities so that Tasmania is the best place to live, work and raise a family.
