Roger Jaensch, Minister for Community Services

Tasmania’s incredible contribution of volunteers has been recognised at the 2024 Tasmanian Volunteering Awards.

Minister for Community Services, Roger Jaensch, said 21 finalists attended the award ceremony organised by Volunteering Tasmania.

“It’s really fantastic to have so many dedicated people, committed to making their community a better place in the same room,” Minister Jaensch said.

“It was my pleasure to present the Premier’s Tasmanian Volunteer of the Year Award to Allana Wilson.

“Allana has fundraised over three hundred thousand dollars for Make-a-Wish Hobart, bringing the wish of sick children and their families to life. It’s an extraordinary effort.

“Congratulations to the state’s 20 other finalists, your work is well-deserving of recognition.”

More than 332,100 Tasmanian volunteers generously donate their time and skills for the benefit of others.

Tasmania’s first Volunteering Strategy will soon be developed , as part of the 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.

“Our Government will provide $150,000 to develop the Strategy and a five-year action plan after its development,” Minister Jaensch said.

“Tasmanian volunteers are critical to communities right across the State, in diverse areas from the sport and arts, through to health and community services, aged care, emergency management, education and conservation.

“We know volunteering can be life-changing both for volunteers and the recipient individuals, organisations and communities.”
