Jeremy Rockliff, Premier
Almost a quarter of the Commission of Inquiry recommendations have been delivered in the past 12 months, the latest progress report has revealed.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said regular and transparent reporting is a key part of rebuilding trust in institutions following the Commission of Inquiry.
“The report released today gives all Tasmanians the ability to see the progress the Government is making,” Premier Rockliff said.
“We continue to deliver on our commitment to regularly report on the progress we have made to keep children safe.”
The update outlines the completion of two Commission of Inquiry recommendations and one interim action since July, meaning 46 recommendations and 28 interim actions have now been completed.
The newly completed recommendations include:
- Legislation to amend the Registration to Work with Vulnerable People Act 2013 and related statutory instruments;
- Revision of Employment Direction No. 5; and
- Increased funding for out-of-home care.
The completed recommendations will help improve checks and balances for people who work with children and young people.
“As announced in the 2024-25 Budget, we have delivered an additional $123.1 million of funding to the out-of-home care system, helping ensure the children being cared for are safe,” Premier Rockliff said.
“In addition to the completed recommendations and actions, a significant amount of work continues to progress other recommendations.”
The Tasmanian Government is working to raise awareness of child sexual abuse and grooming in the community outside of our Commission of Inquiry work, with the relaunch of the Tell Someone campaign.
Progress reports are published quarterly, with the next update to be published in February 2025.
