Enhancing Tasmania's heritage

The second Minister's Heritage Summit has been held in Launceston, bringing participants back together to collaborate and enhance the heritage sector.

Minister for the Arts, Madeleine Ogilvie, said she was proud to host the Summit for the second year after a highly successful inaugural event in Oatlands last year.

The Summit is co-convened by the Heritage Council and Heritage Tasmania with the aim of ensuring our built heritage can reach its full potential.

“Tasmania is home to some of the most beautiful regions in the world which are enhanced by our much- loved built heritage. Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's future secures important world heritage sites for generations to come, providing everyday Tasmanians with support they need to activate heritage spaces and places." said Minister Ogilvie.

"Our Summit provided the opportunity for our built heritage sector stakeholders to come together and share experiences within the heritage community.

"Since the inaugural Summit was held in February 2023, the Heritage Council has worked to strengthen its connection with stakeholders and the Summit helps ensure the Council can hear about opportunities, challenges and risks across the sector.

Tasmanian cultural heritage and interpretation expert, Dr Jody Steele, delivered a keynote address emphasising the importance of storytelling, focusing on the human narratives behind the historical buildings and places.

The Summit also featured discussions on outcomes from sector focus groups established during the inaugural event.

These groups have examined both opportunities and obstacles to achieving sector-wide priorities, with a focus on future-proofing the built heritage sector against generational changes.
