Eric Abetz, Minister for Business, Industry and Resources
Latest attempts by interstate left think tanks to shut down Tasmania’s most vital aquaculture industries should be condemned by Labor.
The Australia Institute has taken out full page ads in Metro-Melbourne and Sydney papers, The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald, showing exactly what they think of Tasmanian jobs.
They think they are dispensable.
In the ads, they say that shutting down salmon farming in Macquarie Harbour ‘…would affect some Tasmanian jobs'.
Minister for Business, Industry and Resources, Eric Abetz, said the Tasmanian Liberal Government will fight for every single job in Tasmania, because every job is a family who has to put food on the table and pay the bills.
“Which job is not valuable to Labor?" Minister Abetz said.
“Tasmania’s regional communities are dependent on our crucial aquaculture industries and if you take away the salmon industry, you take away the heart of the community.
“If Labor side with the Greens and shut down the salmon industry on the West Coast, it’s not just the salmon workers who lose their jobs – the teacher at the local school will be next, then the local nurse.
“And then what’s next in this broad scale attack on regional jobs? They’ll come after the forestry industry and our mining industry.
“Tasmanians aren’t interested in inner city latte sipping Melbourne and Sydney elites telling them whether their job is valuable or not.
“Every job in Tasmania is valuable under our Liberal Government.
“It’s a shame the so-called party of workers have abandoned their own.
“Our Government will continue to back in our world-class, sustainable salmon industry and every single worker in it.”
