Jo Palmer, Minister for Education

A new Child and Family Learning Centre (CFLC) has officially opened its doors in Sorell, providing a welcoming space for families and children to connect, learn and thrive.

The Nest is the latest CFLC that has opened as part of the Tasmanian Liberal Government’s $28 million commitment to deliver six new CFLCs around the State, and bring the total number to 18.

Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said The Nest provides a variety of critical services and support for children aged 0-5 years and their families.

“In response to identified community need and local data, a range of education, health, support and outreach service providers are co-located at The Nest, providing wrap around support to families,” Minister Palmer said.

“Like all of our CFLCs, The Nest has been community-led from the beginning, with a Local Enabling Group (LEG) comprised of representatives from service providers, educators and community members involved in its development and design.

“Since the LEG was established 2019, the CFLC team has been building strong relationships with families and service providers including holding pop-up events throughout the Sorell and Tasman local government areas.

“Since the Centre opened its doors to the public, it’s welcomed over 4000 visitors in its first term of operation.

“I look forward to seeing the amazing connections that will develop right across the community, with families enjoying the Nest as their safe, supportive and welcoming space.”

The Tasmanian Government’s 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future ensures that we provide supportive environments in our children’s early years and commits an additional $32 million to building a further four new supersized Child and Family Learning Centres in Huonville, Smithton, Longford, and Scottsdale.
