Three Tasmanians have been recognised by the Governor-General as part of the Australian Bravery Decorations August 2024 Honours List.
Pieter De Bruyn, Steven De Bruyn and Jak Oxford were awarded a Group Bravery Citation for their courageous rescue in rough seas near St Helens in December 29, 2014.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said the honour is bestowed to Australians who put themselves at risk to protect the lives or property of others.
“To have three of our own honoured in the latest Australian Bravery Decorations Honours List is a testament to the bravery and Tasmanian spirit of selflessness.
“I want to congratulate and thank Pieter, Steven and Jak for their display of extraordinary selflessness and courage,” Premier Rockliff said.
“These three brave men went into dangerous conditions to save lives.
“On behalf of all Tasmanians, we are so proud to have people like you in our great state.”
