Madeleine Ogilvie, Minister for the Arts

Two new members are being appointed to the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) Board.

Minister for the Arts, Madeleine Ogilvie, said the appointments of Andrew Catchpole as Chair and Dr Andrew Young as a member would bolster the Board’s leadership of Tasmania’s premier cultural institution.

“Mr Catchpole will assume this role in August this year and brings strong governance, strategy and leadership skills with more than 14 years senior executive experience with Hydro, as a former Board member of Colony 47 and as an existing TMAG Trustee.

“Dr Young is chief research scientist for the CSIRO and previously led CSIRO’s National Research Collections, rounding out 30 years of experience in collections-based science and research; we welcome him to the TMAG Board for the first time.

“These appointments will add to the existing strengths of the Board, including two returning members, Brett Torossi and Scott Baddiley,” Ms Ogilvie said.

“Ms Torossi and Mr Baddiley have been reappointed as Board members for three-year terms, with their return helping ensure continuity of the Board’s operations.

“Ms Torossi has been the Chair of the TMAG Board since 2018, serving the maximum allowable term as Chair, and Mr Baddiley remains a Trustee and Chair of the Risk and Audit Committee.

“I thank Mark Fraser, whose term on the TMAG Board expired in June this year after not seeking re-appointment.

“I wish all of the new and reappointed Board members the best in their roles, and I look forward to seeing what their contributions will bring to Tasmania’s arts, culture and science sectors."

An important part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is about developing stronger communities and delivering creative sector opportunities across the State and these appointments will support that.
