Eric Abetz,
Leader of the House,
The Tasmanian Liberal Government will continue to deliver the stable, collaborative government that Tasmanians voted for as Parliament returns this week.
Following significant legislative reforms as we deliver on our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we will continue to progress important bills that make it easier to invest in Tasmania, protect our rich cultural heritage and back in our farmers.
As Tasmania confronts national and international economic headwinds, we must ensure we make Tasmania an attractive place to do business, invest in and create jobs. The Parliament will debate the Tasmanian Development Amendment Bill 2024 which increases the statutory cap imposed on co-investment for strategic projects that benefit Tasmania.
The Parliament will also debate legislation that is designed to strengthen the protection of Tasmania's rich historic heritage while simultaneously streamlining administrative processes in the Historic Cultural Heritage Amendment Bill 2024.
There is no greater backer of our primary producers than the Liberals, which is why we are progressing the Farm Debt Mediation Bill 2024. The Bill provides a structured negotiation process to assists farmers and their creditors in resolving issues related to farm debts and encourages early, informal negotiations to be undertaken by offering an additional layer of protection for farmers when informal approaches fail to resolve disputes.
Whilst the Government continues to deliver the 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we expect the Tasmanian Labor Opposition to continue their relentless campaign of negativity.
We know that Labor's commitment to a fresh approach to make Parliament as productive as possible has gone out the window – along with all State Labors' policies.
While Labor continues to be relentlessly negative, the Tasmanian Liberal Government will provide the certainty and stability Tasmania needs, while taking action on the issues affecting Tasmanians right now.
