Next Iconic Walk designs progressing

Updated draft artist renders of the state’s $40 million, 28-kilometre multi-day Next Iconic Walk have been released.

Minister for Parks and Environment, Nick Duigan said the updates are an important part of our community consultation that is underway across the state, with proposed hut and campground site renders to be
shown to those attending.

“The project team will share these concepts with the public at the planned information sessions,” Minister Duigan said.

“Those interested in the project are welcome to come along and hear about the progress of the project, view hut concept designs, maps and photos along the track route and see the early interpretation themes for the walk.”

The second drop-in session was held at Ulverstone last night, with sessions in Launceston, and Hobart to follow.

The design team is in the process of finalising concepts for Tasmania’s Next Iconic Walk, and will be delivered as part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.

“The track route has been ground-truthed, and lookouts and other key points of interest have been identified along the way,” Minister Duigan said.

“This walk will be a gamechanger for the West Coast and Tasmania more broadly. We know our multi-day walks are in high demand and the Next Iconic Walk will complement the growing suite of great tourism products and experiences that are already available.”

The project will create 139 jobs during construction and an additional 40 jobs in tourism, hospitality and transport through ongoing operations. The project team is aiming to have all approvals in place in 2025, with the walk tipped to open in 2029.

“This walk will also build on the success of the Overland Track, the Three Capes Track, and enhance our reputation as one of the great walking destinations of the world,” Minister Duigan said.
