Nic Street, Minister for Sport and Events
For the first time ever Hobart has had the opportunity to be part of the Supercars action with five Gen3 vehicles taking to the streets ahead of the track action at Symmons Plains.
As part of the 2024 NED Whisky Tasmania SuperSprint, Motorsport fans gathered on the forecourt of Prince’s Wharf No. 1, for driver signing sessions and Q&As, kid’s activities, big screens with highlight reels and a transporter display.
This year, the racing schedule will include the Repco Supercars Championship, the Porsche Sprint Challenge Australia, Formula Ford and set to return Aussie Racing Cars and Tassie Tin Tops.
Minister for Sport and Events, Nic Street, said the Tasmanian Government is a proud supporter of Supercars, providing over $5.6 million from 2019 to 2024 to support the delivery of a Supercars round in Tasmania.
“In addition to this funding, the Government provided $1.75 million to Motorsports Tasmania, to undertake mandatory safety and amenity improvements to the Symmons Plains Raceway,” Minister Street said.
The event is expected to bring over 6,000 interstate and international visitors to the State, staying an average of six nights.
“Hosting an event of this scale and status provides both economic and social benefits to our State. It encourages interstate and intrastate travel, boosts the local economy, and provides Tasmania’s with the opportunity to see world-class racing right here in their own State," Minister Street said.
Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is all about making our State the best place to live, work and raise a family, and we know this event is a highlight for our motorsport fanatics.
The 2024 NED Whisky Tasmania SuperSprint will take place at Symmons Plains from Friday, 16 August to Sunday, 18 August 2024.
