Feedback sought on caravan park long-term residency

The Tasmanian Government is seeking feedback from caravan park residents, operators and other interested parties on long-term residency matters. 

Minister for Small Business and Consumer Affairs, Madeleine Ogilvie, announced the release of the 'Regulation of long-term residency in caravan parks in Tasmania' discussion paper today.

“Initially, caravan parks were seen as a short-term accommodation option for people visiting an area, however, over time they have been increasingly viewed as a form of longer-term accommodation,” said Minister Ogilvie. 

“Many groups in the community, including seniors and retirees, have been attracted by the facilities, locations, and communal lifestyle, and we recognise that factors like cost of living and housing affordability have also prompted others to become long-term caravan park residents. 

“The increasing popularity of residential parks presents challenges for park residents, operators, and government alike. We realise many park residents are seeking long-term, secure, housing options, while park operators are looking for a supportive regulatory environment and a return on their investment. I am confident there are areas of common interest and opportunities to identify solutions that can benefit all parties.

“Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future takes action on the things that matter to Tasmanians, and the discussion paper will ensure we can identify and examine the key issues and regulatory challenges surrounding long-term residents and caravan parks.” 

Tasmanians can make a submission on the Discussion Paper which is available here on the Department of Justice website until midnight, Wednesday October 2 2024.
