Message from the Premier

The 2026-27 Budget continues to drive the delivery of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, enabling a strong economy and a caring community.
It secures significant investment in the services and infrastructure that Tasmanians must have now, and for the future.
It is a Budget that ensures our economy continues to be strong, resilient and well-positioned for years to come. It recognises that our nation and the world are facing turbulent times, while giving us the headroom to handle the challenges ahead.
To help Tasmanians, the Budget delivers targeted cost of living relief measures, including a one-year extension of free public transport so that more Tasmanians can move around our State at no cost.
We are delivering fairer, cheaper insurance for Tasmanians through the creation of TasInsure, with legislation to establish the state-owned authority to be delivered this year.
The Budget continues to deliver record investments in health services, including tens of thousands of additional bulk-billed GP appointments, made possible through our new TassieDocs initiative. These appointments will mean more Tasmanians can see a GP closer to home, and ease pressure on our hospitals.
Helping Tasmanians into their own home is a priority for our Government. The 2026-27 Budget continues to support Tasmanians into their first home through the First Home Owner Grant, as well as the expanded MyHome Shared Equity Program, which has already helped more than 1,000 households realise the dream of home ownership.
Tasmania maintains its strong economic position, with Treasury forecasts showing about 8 per cent growth in real per-capita terms over the next four years, outstripping population growth and placing Tasmania ahead of every other Australian jurisdiction. The 2026-27 Budget builds on this success to ensure we continue to attract strong private investment and a resilient business community.
The infrastructure investment pipeline has reached almost $40 billion, with the Budget delivering new and improved roads, hospitals, schools and generational community and sporting infrastructure. These projects are driving significant economic activity and creating thousands of jobs.
The Tasmanian Budget confirms that we are getting the balance right.
It makes the savings needed to return to a balanced budget sooner, whilst securing the services and infrastructure Tasmania must have now, and for the future.
Jeremy Rockliff, Premier of Tasmania
