Delivering for Southern Tasmania

The Tasmanian Government is delivering a strong economy and caring community.

The 2026-27 Budget makes the savings needed whilst continuing to deliver the essential services and build the infrastructure Southern Tasmania must have now, and for the future.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff said this Budget recognises our nation, and the world, are facing turbulent times.

“It gives us the headroom we need to deal with the challenges ahead,” the Premier said.

“We are getting the balance right, ensuring our economy continues to be strong, resilient and well positioned for the future.

“We are delivering healthcare, education, roads, infrastructure and services for Southern Tasmania.”

Health and mental health: 

  • $16m to deliver new bulkbilling GP clinics to improve access to primary care statewide;
  • $3.9m to deliver a statewide meningococcal B vaccination program;
  • 27 New Mental Health Beds at St Johns Park and the Peacock Centre;
  • Support the Tasmanian Breast Care Centre and delivering two new permanent breast screening clinics in Glenorchy and Kingborough;
  • $5.3m for the St Johns Park Eating Disorders Treatment Centre;
  • $89.2m for the Stage 2 redevelopment of the Emergency Department at the Royal Hobart Hospital;
  • $8.9m for the St Johns Park Child and Adolescent Mental Health inpatient unit and day facility;
  • Delivering the $40m St Johns Park Health precinct – Older Persons Mental Health Facility;
  • Delivering a new purpose-built $15m Medical Precinct for the Huon Valley, including a Mental Health Hub;
  • $15m to deliver new ambulance stations in Cygnet and Snug;
  • $23.7m for the Kingston Health Centre – Stage 2; and
  • $5m to help women fulfil their dream of starting or expanding their family through the IVF rebate.

Education: 

  • Delivering our Healthy School Lunch Program at Collinsvale Primary, Cosgrove High School, Glenorchy Primary, Goodwood Primary, Moonah Primary, Springfield Gardens Primary, Windermere Primary, Clarendon Vale Primary, Risdon Vale Primary, Rokeby Primary and Warrane Primary schools;
  • Delivering and progressing upgrades to school playgrounds and sports courts across the South;
  • The redevelopment of the Dodges Ferry Primary School;
  • $11.4m for the JRLF – East Derwent Primary upgrade;
  • Delivering a $15.1m Stage 1 redevelopment of Cambridge Primary, with design work underway for the $2.9m Stage 2; and
  • Redeveloping and upgrading Clarence High, Lindisfarne North Primary, Risdon Vale Primary, Princes Street Primary and Rosetta Primary schools.

Infrastructure: 

  • Arthur Highway Improvements;
  • $311m for three Tranche 3 irrigation schemes including the Greater South East Irrigation Scheme;
  • Investing in the Derwent Ferry expansion plan and terminal upgrades to Lindisfarne, Sandy Bay and Wilkinsons Point;
  • $76.52m for the Algona Road grade separation and Kingston Bypass duplication;
  • $43m for the Huon Highway upgrades between Kingston and Southport;
  • Tasmanian JackJumpers and Jewels High Performance Training Centre in Kingston;
  • $75.6m for the Macquarie Point Northern Access Road;
  • Northern Suburbs Transit Corridor planning;
  • Finalise Hobart Southern Outlet Transit Lane project;
  • $84.18m for the Southern Road Maintenance Contract;
  • $12.5m for the New Town Bay Basketball Courts;
  • $8m for the redevelopment of the Domain Tennis Centre;
  • A new Glenorchy Sports Centre in Claremont; and
  • $25m to deliver the new Kingborough Sporting Precinct.

“This Budget ensures our economy continues to be strong, resilient and well positioned for the future,” the Premier said.
