Key 2026-27 Budget Initiatives

Expanding access to healthcare

  • $364 million in the Launceston General Hospital Redevelopment, including the Mental Health Precinct and the Northern Health Complex;
  • $14.3 million to upgrade the North West Regional Hospital, including for an expanded ambulance drop-off area and Emergency Department expansion;
  • $40 million North West Mental Health Precinct providing a safe and supportive 22-bed mental health inpatient unit to replace the Spencer Clinic;
  • $126.7 million to deliver more treatment points and improved patient care spaces in the Emergency Department at the Royal Hobart Hospital;
  • Significantly increasing access to bulk-billed GP appointments through TassieDocs;
  • Expand the highly successful Youth Mental Health in the Home program to Northern Tasmania;
  • Help more women fulfil their dream of having children by providing financial support for In Vitro Fertilisation, other assisted reproductive technology treatments, or fertility preservation services;
  • Boost access to life-saving breast screening across Tasmania by delivering four new permanent clinics at Kingborough, Devonport, Triabunna, and Glenorchy; and
  • Deliver a contemporary Older Persons Mental Health facility at St Johns Park to replace the Roy Fagan Centre.

Easing cost of living pressures

  • Extend free public transport for a year, ensuring Tasmanians can get to where they need to go without the cost;
  • Supporting students to thrive and help families save money through our Healthy School Lunch and School Breakfast programs;
  • Helping Tasmanians get active and connect with the community through the Ticket to Wellbeing and Ticket to Play vouchers; and
  • Concessions and subsidies for 70,000 eligible Tasmanians across electricity, water and sewerage bills.
