The Tasmanian Liberal Government is delivering support for landholders to develop carbon farming initiatives, improve land management and access the carbon credit market.
Interest in carbon farming and carbon offsets is growing because it presents primary producers with opportunities to develop new income streams.
That’s why, to help Tasmanians take advantage of these opportunities, we have committed $250,000 towards a new Carbon Farming Advice Rebate pilot program.
The Rebate pilot program will be aligned with our popular Landcare Action Grants program, which has been expanded to include carbon farming. The Government has also provided an additional $900,000 to continue the grants program until 2025.
Under the Carbon Farming Advice Rebate pilot program, primary producers will be able to claim a rebate of up to $10,000 for having sought professional advice about the costs and benefits of accessing carbon credits, auditing requirements, and on-ground actions that are eligible for carbon credits.
This will be complemented by the expanded Landcare Action Grants Program which will provide primary producers with the opportunity to access grant funding for on-ground works needed to access the carbon credit market.
There will still be the opportunity to apply for funding from the Landcare Action Grants Program for practical on-ground works for sustainable agriculture and river care activities, as has been the case under the previous three rounds of the program.
Grants of up to $10,000 will be available with Landcare Tasmania and the Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association continuing to administer the program.
In addition, workshops will be held across the State to better help landowners in understanding the carbon credit market and how they can get assistance from Government to support the development of their carbon farming project.
Workshop dates and locations will be advertised on www.farmpoint.tas.gov.au later this month and will roll out in October.
Applications for Landcare Action Grants and the Carbon Farming Advice Rebate program will then open in November. Further information is available at www.dpipwe.tas.gov.au
