Recreational boating enthusiasts can now enjoy upgraded facilities with improvements to boat and trailer parking at a popular fishing location on the Tasman Peninsula now complete.
The project has made it safer and easier for people to access the boat ramp and park their vehicles after launching their boats.
Minister for Environment and Parks Roger Jaensch said the works involved improving the existing car and trailer parking and the connecting walkways, along with widening of the access road to the boat ramp.
“Pirates Bay is a gateway to nearby internationally recognised game fishing waters off Tasmania's south-east,” Minister Jaensch said.
“We are committed to future-proofing our natural areas for future generations to enjoy, and these upgrades will ensure Pirates Bay can continue to be a popular recreational location for years to come.”
Liberal Member for Lyons John Tucker said the new facilities at Pirates Bay follow the completion of similar upgrades at Coles Bay.
“Planning is also well advanced for both an expansion to existing boat trailer parking on the foreshore at Swansea and the formalisation of boat trailer parking at Burns Bay near St Helens,” Mr Tucker said.
“This time of year, Tasmanians and visitors alike are keen to spend time on the water, and these upgrades are good news that will improve the experience for all visitors using the Pirates Bay jetty and boat ramp.”
