Funding programs to energise Tasmania’s workforce

Tasmania is continuing to build its reputation as the nation’s renewable energy powerhouse with two new funding programs worth more than $1.2 million now open to support Tasmania to build a skilled workforce equipped with the expertise needed for major energy, infrastructure and related initiatives.

The two programs Energy and Infrastructure Training Market Development Fund and Energy and Infrastructure Workforce Development Fund support the delivery of our Energising Tasmania commitment.

Energising Tasmania is a $16.1 million funding commitment from the Australian Government to develop a skilled workforce to meet demand across our major energy projects, including Project Marinus and Battery of the Nation.

The Training Market Development Fund provides grants to training organisations to increase training capacity and undertake other projects that respond to the training needs of Tasmania’s energy and infrastructure sectors.

While the Workforce Development Fund provides grants to eligible organisations to undertake projects and activities that are responsive to the workforce needs of Tasmania’s energy and infrastructure sectors.

These new funding programs have been developed through the Tasmanian Energy and Infrastructure Workforce Advisory Committee (TEIWAC), and will complement the existing Energising Tasmania Training Fund, which opened in March 2020 to provide fully subsidised training places for existing workers in energy, infrastructure and related sectors.

We will continue to develop our workforce and training capabilities to meet industry needs and grow Tasmania’s reputation as a renewable energy powerhouse.
