The Tasmanian Government welcomes the Australian Government’s extension of the Boosting Apprentices Commencement (BAC) wage subsidy, which has so far supported more than 3,000 Tasmanians learn new skills and enter the workforce.
The wage subsidy covers 50 per cent of a new apprentice or trainee’s wage since 5 October 2020 and has now been extended by 6 months until September 30 2021.
The BAC investment supports and complements the Tasmanian Government’s plan to ensure we have the skilled workforce needed to support our economy as we recover from the pandemic and rebuild a stronger Tasmania.
It comes on the back of strong results in Tasmania, with trade occupation completions in February 2021 up by 7.2 per cent on February 2020.
In addition, there were 482 training contract registrations processed in February 2021, 5.2 per cent more than in February 2020. This included 141 registrations processed in the North West, 126 in the North and 215 in the South.
The Tasmanian Government is investing more than $43 million to boost jobs for apprentices and trainees in Tasmania, to give businesses the confidence to employ more Tasmanians.
This includes $10.5 million towards the Australian Government’s $21 million JobTrainer Fund, which is delivering up to 7000 additional free training places specifically for youth and the unemployed.
