Contact tracing essential to keeping Tasmanians safe

The health, safety and wellbeing of Tasmanians is our number one priority as we continue to respond to the challenges of COVID-19.

As we head into the holiday period, it’s a timely reminder that owners and operators of a range of venues and businesses are required to collect contact information from every person who enters or attends their premises or event for at least 15 minutes.

The contact information to be collected includes; the name, contact telephone number and the date and time of entry of attendance and it’s the responsibility of owners and operators to ensure that information is accessible and kept for at least 28 days.

Businesses are able to use the Check in Tas app or alternative electronic or paper based solutions. The “Check in TAS” App is available for use, and can be downloaded from the Google-Play app store now, and/or the Apple Store.

There is extensive information available for businesses on both the coronavirus website www.coronavirus.tas.gov.au and Business Tasmania website www.business.tas.gov.au/coronavirus_information.

The expanded list of venues and businesses required to collect contact information is also available on the Coronavirus Tasmania website and includes locations like places of worship, cinemas, entertainment venues, dance venues and night clubs, galleries, museums, historic sites and tourist premises, as well as tourism activities, concert venues, hair dressing salons and beauty treatment premises.

We all have a role to play in keeping each other safe. I encourage all Tasmanians to ensure they are providing accurate information at all relevant venues, and if a business has concerns or questions about compliance with current directions please contact WorkSafe on 1300 366 322 or www.worksafe.tas.gov.au.

With regards to testing, our numbers have increased and it is really important we keep this up.

In response to an increase in testing rates, the PW1 testing clinic in Hobart that was due to close yesterday afternoon remains in operation until at least tomorrow, with a review undertaken tomorrow evening.

The new testing clinic at the corner of Melville and Argyle Street opened as planned this morning. The two sites will operate as bookings only today and Tuesday to cater for the increased demand, and a comprehensive list of testing sites over the Christmas/New Year period will be released on Wednesday.

There are testing sites across the state and a number of options available to Tasmanians including;

  • Drive through Testing Clinics in Hobart, Launceston, Devonport and Burnie
  • GP-led respiratory clinics in a general practice setting in Hobart, Launceston and St Helens
  • Your local GP clinic if they offer COVID-19 testing

Testing will remain available throughout the entire Christmas period, and further information regarding opening hours during the Christmas period will be published on Wednesday.

Tasmanians have all played a vital role in 2020 in keeping Tasmanian safe. As we celebrate the festive season with family and friends we all have a responsibility to keep on top of COVID this Christmas.

If you or a loved one have any symptoms at all, whether holidaying at home or enjoying the shack, please phone the Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738.
