Clean Up Australia Day 2021

Tasmanians are encouraged to participate in Clean Up Australia Day, which is being held on Sunday 7th March 2021.

Clean Up Australia Day is an annual event to encourage people to put their boots and gloves on and join up with other members of their community to clean up litter in their local area.

Events are being organised around the State, with 23 in the North West, 19 in Launceston and 68 events in the Hobart area. To join a clean up near you, go to www.cleanup.org.au

The Tasmanian Government is continuing to play our part as we strive to have the lowest rate of litter in the country by 2023 and build a circular economy in Tasmania.

We have already implemented an online mechanism to report littering from motor vehicles or vessels, and to report illegal dumping.

The 2020-21 Budget will see up to $30 million invested in waste management, recycling and resource recovery initiatives in Tasmania over the next four years.

We are also progressing the design of a Container Refund Scheme to be implemented in 2022. Tasmanians will get a refund for drink containers that they return to a designated local refund point.

This scheme is designed to reduce beverage container litter in our parks, rivers and beaches, boost recycling and provide opportunities to charities and community organisations.
