The Tasmanian community will soon have their say on practical actions to improve the sustainability of the housing market with the development of the Tasmanian Housing Strategy.
Delivering on the commitment outlined in our First 100 Day Plan, we have commenced work on the Tasmanian Housing Strategy and are engaging with major stakeholders.
Tasmanians can get more information, including details on the extensive consultation opportunities that will open over coming months, as we bring together experts in Government, research, community, business and construction to provide advice on how to increase opportunities for Tasmanians to get affordable and secure housing.
We are implementing the recommendations of the Premier’s Economic and Social Recovery Advisory Council and are investing $2 million to develop a comprehensive Tasmanian Housing Strategy to drive practical actions to deliver more sustainable housing market outcomes for all Tasmanians.
We know that there is more to do to help Tasmanians who are experiencing challenges around increasing house prices and affordable private rentals and the Tasmanian Housing Strategy will explore potential improvements to the housing market through regulatory systems, strategic land use planning, policies, taxes, subsidies, and capital investment.
While increasing house prices are a national issue, our State is one of the safest and most desirable places in the world to work and raise a family, which is why so many want to live here.
We have a strong Plan to respond to rising house prices due to economic growth, more people in jobs and population growth. We took this Plan to the election to increase housing supply in Tasmania and help more people into home ownership.
