The Scottsdale community will benefit from a new training centre that will prepare students to enter one of Tasmania’s fastest growing and most exciting industries, hospitality.
A new commercial teaching kitchen will begin construction within weeks at the Trade Training Centre at the Scottsdale High School site, with the project advertised for tender today.
This will enable students to gain certificates in hospitality and kitchen operations, and learn the basics of barista training and food handling.
With Tasmania’s hospitality and tourism sectors going from strength to strength, with more visitors arriving on our shores than ever before, there are a growing number of jobs in this area.
The new training centre will be immeasurably valuable for students, ensuring they are job ready, and for the industry too, which is in great need of skilled workers.
The addition of a commercial teaching kitchen will expand on the skills training already available, including building and construction, brick laying, plumbing, engineering, metals and automotive.
Construction work on the addition to the centre is expected to start in October and be completed by February 2017. The work was designed by local architect Artas Architects.
This is just one of the many projects supported by the Tasmanian Liberal Government’s $110 million investment in capital works over four years in education. Across the forward estimates, we are making the biggest state investment in Government School infrastructure in 20 years.
These projects are building our education future by ensuring schools have high-quality education facilities that support learning and student engagement while also driving economic growth and creating jobs from planning to construction.
Students having access to contemporary and flexible facilities gives them the greatest opportunity to explore their passions and discover a path to their future career.
