LoRa Schools Challenge to find the next big internet idea

The Hodgman Liberal Government is encouraging young Tasmanians to engage with new technologies through the LoRa Schools Challenge.

We’re inviting students to come up with the best new ideas of how a state-wide Internet of Things could improve lives.

The Internet of Things is the connection of computing devices embedded in everyday objects enabling them to send and receive data via the internet, and it is a growing reality in life with cars, buildings, and medical devices becoming increasingly connected.

The possibilities are endless and that is why the Government, in partnership with Enterprize Tasmania, is challenging our brightest young minds to find new ways to best use the LoRa WAN wireless network being piloted in Launceston.

Over the next two months as the next stage of LoRa WAN is rolled-out across Launceston, students, groups or schools can enter one-minute videos on their idea for an IoT solution that could form a successful business or solve a pressing problem.

This competition provides students and teachers with an opportunity to participate in the growing momentum around IoT development in Tasmania.

With the next phase of the LoRa WAN pilot network underway towards full wireless coverage of the entire Launceston region, students are challenged to map out what they would like to see done or made possible, or what they would like to see connected, with this growing technology.

Winning schools will receive Internet of Things equipment kits and ongoing IoT support.
