Dunalley Primary School remediation works well underway

Works on remediating water damage at Dunalley Primary School are continuing.

The Department of Education has not been advised of any parents who are withdrawing their children, from the school for this reason.

Our priority is and always has been student and staff safety and that is why we’ve taken the actions to use alternative learning spaces while the problem is fixed.

All activity to return the buildings to a fit operational state have been, and will continue to be, guided by expert consultants.

The dedicated staff at the school have ensured that the quality teaching of students has continued through this period.

The school buildings will be reoccupied in term four this year; the exact timing is being determined in consultation with the school community and only after the testing shows the site is safe.

Additional staff and resources have also been provided to support the school community.

The department has been providing regular updates to the school community through the school newsletter, on the repair work and concerned parents are encouraged to speak to the class teacher or principal at any time.

There has been good progress on addressing building defects and remediating the mould. For example, the entire inside of the Southern General Learning Areas building has been thoroughly cleaned under the direction of experts and refurbishing the interior is underway.

Work on the remaining buildings continues and will follow the same cleaning and testing process.

Liability for damage is yet to be determined, but the department does not expect tax payers to foot the repair bill and the school’s budget will definitely not be affected.
