New funding to build the capacity of Tasmanian Aboriginal organisations

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is committed to delivering better outcomes for Tasmanian Aboriginal people and their families, in partnership with Tasmanian Aboriginal people.

The new National Agreement on Closing the Gap - developed in partnership between governments and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people - recognises that Aboriginal people are best placed to determine and deliver services to meet their needs and cultural requirements.

Today, I am pleased to announce that the Tasmanian Government is now accepting proposals for the Closing the Gap Capacity Building Funding Program, with a funding pool of $5.3 million available.

The Fund will build the capacity of Aboriginal organisations so they can deliver services in their local community that specifically address Closing the Gap targets, in key areas such as health and wellbeing, education and housing.

Successful proposals will be prioritised based on a demonstrated need in the local community, and National and State target outcome priorities.

This means, if an Aboriginal organisation identifies a need in their community, our Government can support that organisation to deliver a new or pre-existing service in a manner that embeds positive change for Tasmanian Aboriginal people.

Our Government is clear on its commitments under the National Agreement on Closing the Gap, and is working to support and strengthen its partnership with Tasmanian Aboriginal people towards a more just future.

Proposals can be submitted until June 30, 2023, and Aboriginal organisations can submit multiple funding proposals.
