Students accept Premier’s Reading Challenge

Congratulations to students at more than 160 Tasmanian schools who took part in the 2015 Premier’s Reading Challenge.

Earlier this year I called for all students from Prep to Year 6 across Tasmania to set their own personal goals to read for enjoyment at a level that will challenge them.

Students have certainly taken up that challenge, reading more than 136,000 books and completing more than 1,500 book reviews.

More than 31,000 Tasmanian students accepted the challenge to read 10 books over 10 weeks, and almost one in two competed it.

It was today my pleasure to present completion certificates to students from Bowen Road Primary School, Triabunna Primary School and Perth Primary School at Parliament House.

These three schools are among the several schools where an exceptionally high number of students successfully completed the challenge.

Now in its eighth year, the Premier’s Reading Challenge continues to be a great way to encourage young Tasmanians to read often and develop a love of books and reading.

Reading is one of the greatest things we can do it life. With the turn of a page we can learn new facts, take an adventure and build our reading and literacy skills.

Reading can also be an immensely enjoyable activity to do as a family with hundreds of good books or e-books available to borrow at any local LINC, Hub, library or LINC Tasmania online.
