, Acting Minister for Education and Training

Joining forces with the Beacon Foundation

The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Beacon Foundation today will help more young Tasmanians to gain a job.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is delivering on its commitment to work with the Beacon Foundation in assisting young Tasmanians to continue education, training and become job-ready.

The Beacon Foundation shares in our Government’s commitment to address youth unemployment and foster engagement with education for more young Tasmanians.

Last year a Grant Deed of $675,000 over three years was signed between the Government and Beacon, today’s agreement builds on this by outlining how the Department of Education and Beacon will work together to help young Tasmanians.

This partnership is expected to help an additional 1,500 students to be job-ready or to actually get a job. Through the MoU there will be further collaboration between the Department of Education and the Beacon Foundation as both organisations work together towards achieving our goal of creating a job-ready generation.

A strong partnership will result in:

  • Schools understanding the benefits of Beacon partnerships for their students;
  • DoE and Beacon staff working together where appropriate across programs;
  • Identifying initiatives within the My Education program to ensure students are job-ready;
  • Integrating elements of the Beacon program with My Education; and
  • Professional learning for teachers based on Beacon programs.

The Department of Education and the Beacon Foundation will  report to the Minister on progress against the MoU at least quarterly.

We want more young Tasmanians to gain a good education so they can get a job and live a fulfilling life, and together with the Beacon Foundation we will strive to achieve this.
