Elise Archer, Attorney-General
Minister for Justice

Appointment of new Magistrate

I am pleased to announce Ms Marica Duvnjak has been appointed as a permanent, full-time Magistrate, commencing on 17 January 2022.

Ms Duvnjak brings extensive legal experience to this important role, having previously served as a member of the Guardianship and Administration Board, Principal Crown Counsel at the Office of the Solicitor-General, Criminal Injuries Compensation Commissioner, and as Chairperson of the Parole Board.

Since 2018, she has been the Chairperson of the Resource Management Planning Appeals Tribunal (now Deputy President of our newly created Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, TASCAT).

Ms Duvnjak replaces Magistrate Glenn Hay who retired earlier this year, and will be stationed in Hobart.

This appointment follows a selection process in accordance with the Protocol for Judicial Appointments.

I personally congratulate Magistrate Duvnjak on her appointment and look forward to her continued contribution to our justice system into the future.
