Honouring the heroes of the Tasmania Fire Service

Tassie’s firefighters are heroes in the truest sense of the word.

In selflessly protecting our community, they go above and beyond, often placing themselves in harm’s way to ensure the safety of those around them.

St Florian’s Day, 4 May, is celebrated across the world as International Firefighters’ Day, a shared day of remembrance where we pay tribute for the enduring sacrifice of all those current and former firefighters who have dedicated their lives to the protection of others.

This International Firefighters’ Day we pause to reflect and remember those brave men and women who have lost their life in the line of duty while protecting our loved ones, our communities, and our homes.

It also holds special significance for the State, as former Tasmanian Steven Watson will be memorialised and recognised as losing his life in the line of duty.

Steven served proudly as a firefighter in Western Australia’s fire service in a career spanning 18 years, paying the ultimate sacrifice as a result.

On behalf of the Tasmanian Government, we say thank you to the men and women who make up our Tasmania Fire Service.
