More than 200 Tasmanian secondary students are aligning their learning program to a particular industry as part of the Tasmanian Government’s Packages of Learning program which commenced this year.
A total of 12 schools are taking part, following a successful pilot of the program in 2019 which saw strong engagement from students and positive results.
Engaging in a Package of Learning means that students not only learn practical industry skills, but also undertake core curriculum subjects such as Maths, Science and English, through an industry lens.
This approach provides our senior students with an integrated approach to their learning, and allows them to see how their learning will apply to their work life, creating greater clarity and excitement about their future.
During the pilot, the Packages of Learning were aligned to four key industry fields – Advanced Manufacturing; Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources; Architecture and Construction; and Hospitality and Tourism. The pilot schools were selected based on the growth of these industries in their region.
The development of the teaching and learning resources for each Package of Learning was guided and supported by our local industry partners, ensuring that students understand real-world problems facing industry and industry trends.
The Tasmanian Government is committed to steadily increasing the number of students who complete Year 12.
We recognise that every student is different, and we want to ensure that all students feel supported to learn in a way that is best suited to their unique style and circumstances.
