Happy birthday to Cancer Council Tasmania’s Southern Support Centre

It was my pleasure to celebrate the third birthday of the Cancer Council Tasmania’s Southern Support Centre in Hobart today.

Cancer has likely touched every Tasmanain in some form, with more than 3,400 Tasmanians diagnosed each year.

The Southern Support Centre is one of only two purpose-built cancer support centres of its type in Australia, with the second Centre in Launceston. It is a place for people who are affected by cancer to have some quiet time in a safe place, along with providing access to a range of services and programs.

In the three years since opening, support services have been provided on over 5,400 occasions to people impacted by cancer, at all stages of their diagnosis.

Thank you to all the staff and volunteers who do an incredible job working with people at one of the most difficult times of their lives - the work they do is invaluable and comforting to all Tasmanians who may one day need their services.
