Congratulations to the Tasmanians off to the Tokyo Olympic Games

Congratulations to all of the Australian athletes who have been given the immense honour of representing their country at the upcoming Tokyo Olympics, particularly the Tasmanians who have been selected on the team.

This is a tremendous achievement and testament to the dedication and hard work they have put in to get to this point.

Tasmanians continue to punch above their weight and the following local athletes have been selected for Tokyo 2021:

Stewart McSweyn (athletics), Daniel Watkins (canoe slalom), Georgia Baker and Richie Porte (cycling), Jacob Birtwhistle (triathlon) Eddie Ockenden (hockey), Sarah Hawe (rowing), Ariarne Titmus (swimming) and Nathaniel Atkinson (Football).

Ciona Wilson (rowing) and Josh Beltz (hockey) have been selected as travelling reserves, while Tasmanian born Chris Goulding (basketball) has also been selected for the Australian Boomers.

As Minister for Women, it’s great to hear that the Australian Olympic Team will break new ground in Tokyo by having the highest percentage of female athletes to compete for Australia (53.8 per cent).

I wish all athletes who have been selected in the team the best of luck as they live their Olympic dreams at the biggest sporting event in the world.
