Tasmanian author wins publishing deal

Congratulations to Tasmanian author, Adam Thompson, on securing a publishing deal with the University of Queensland Press to publish his debut short story collection Born into this.

The University of Queensland Press acquired the world rights to the collection, which will be published in early 2021.

Adam is an emerging Tasmanian Aboriginal (pakana) man from Launceston who writes contemporary, Aboriginal themed short fiction.

The Tasmanian majority Liberal Government is a strong supporter of Tasmania’s cultural and creative sectors, including literature.

In 2019, Adam Thompson received a grant through Arts Tasmania to develop his short story collection and pursue publishing opportunities.

Adam also undertook a screenwriting attachment during development of the third series of Little J & Big Cuz enabled by Project Development support through Screen Tasmania.

In 2018 he was one of 10 recipients of the Wheeler Centre’s inaugural Next Chapter initiative for developing writers and was mentored by Cate Kennedy.

I look forward to reading Born into this when it is published and watching Adam’s career further progress.
