Tasmania entices Hyatt Centric

Tasmania has again proved its pulling power as a premium visitor destination with news that Australasia’s first Hyatt Centric is to be located in Hobart.

The agreement between the developers of the hotel, Elizabeth Tasmania Pty Ltd and Hyatt, will see the $40 million Elizabeth Street hotel operate under the international Hyatt Centric banner.

Hobart will join the likes of New York, Paris and Chicago where the hotel brand promises upscale, cosmopolitan experiences in the heart of prime visitor destinations.

Equally important for our State, this project will support 177 full-time equivalent jobs during construction and around 60 ongoing roles once complete, bringing real jobs to Tasmanians.

We know our accommodation is already extremely stretched at peak periods and this new and vibrant boutique hotel experience will bring increased capacity to the market, along with a globally significant brand and its tremendous recognition and distribution into Tasmania.

This highly anticipated and significant announcement is in no small part due to the Office of the Coordinator-General which facilitated the partnership of Elizabeth Tasmania and Hyatt.

This is further confirmation the Tasmanian Government’s long-term Plan to drive economic growth and job-creating investment is working.

Tasmania has fast become a hotspot for foreign investors with recent Foreign Investment Review Board data showing an increase in approvals from $30 million to $1.06 billion.

We congratulate Elizabeth Tasmania and Hyatt on this exciting new partnership.
