Official Opening of Geeveston Primary School

The Liberal Government is committed to investing in education to create a job-ready generation, and that's why we support school communities being empowered to make decisions that are all about improving education outcomes for their students.

Today, Geeveston Primary School officially celebrated and acknowledged its transformation from Geeveston District High School to Geeveston Primary School.

Towards the end of 2012 the Geeveston school community voted to become a primary school from a district high school, and in 2013 this became a reality.

The move has strengthened the school community, resulting in greater education opportunities for students and has been underpinned by refurbishment works that I am excited to be here today to officially open.

They include four renovated classrooms, refurbished reception area, office, administration space and kitchen facilities, upgrade of internal toilets and the security system to enable community use for some buildings, and landscaping work.

The site now benefits from modifications and renovations that provide a rich and purpose-designed primary oriented learning environment.

The School Association has future plans to further enhance the school, including an outdoor teaching and learning space and fostering further partnerships with local community groups.

The Geeveston school community is to be congratulated on its collaboration and engagement in making an important decision for their school, with enrolments remaining steady at 70 students.

The school is becoming a focal point for the community and together with wayraparattee, the Child and Family Centre located in Geeveston, provides significant learning opportunities for the whole community in supporting families with very young children.

I offer my sincere congratulations and appreciation to the many people in the Geeveston community who have renewed their school for the benefit of our young people.
