New Magistrate sworn in for North-West

Former Magistrate Peter Dixon has been appointed as a temporary Magistrate to serve the North-West.

Mr Dixon was first appointed a Magistrate in 1986 after practising law in the North-West since 1968, before his retirement in 2012.

The Tasmanian Government is committed to providing regional Tasmania with adequate access to Justice, and the appointment of Mr Dixon will ensure that there is no disruption to hearings and current court matters while Magistrate McKee is on leave.

Mr Dixon replaces Magistrate Andrew McKee, who has taken leave due to personal reasons ahead of his transfer to Hobart to replace Magistrate Chandler upon his retirement.

The Government will soon be calling for expressions of interest for the appointment of a permanent Magistrate in the North West.

The Government acknowledges Mr Dixon’s wealth of experience and welcomes his return to the Bench for this period.
