Lazy Labor Misfires Again

The extent of Labor's Laziness continues to reveal itself with their members yet again skipping the research and resorting to simply making up silly assertions and revealing their own complete incompetence.

Having stumbled into declaring his own election commitments unaffordable earlier this week, Bryan Green's latest cunning plan is to have his members reveal one after one that after 16 years of government they don't know how fixed-term contracts operate.

This must come as quite a surprise to the thousands of people on fixed-term contracts that were not renewed under their government, including 557 fixed-term positions which were not renewed within six months in 2011.

Today in question time Labor demanded that:

  • If someone is employed on a six-month contract to cover maternity leave, they should remain in that position indefinitely after the person on leave returns, having two people employed in the same role.
  • Anybody employed to undertake a specific project on a fixed-term contract should be renewed indefinitely after their contract expires, even if the project is completed and the funding for the project spent.

These are farcical arguments from people who allegedly were in charge of the public service for the past 16 years. No wonder Labor let public service wages bill spiral out of control, contributing to the huge budget mess they left behind.
