Labor Backs Cable-Harvesting Subsidies

Labor has finally broken its silence on forestry to reveal it would continue to rob millions from our hospitals and our schools to subsidise the industry, because it remains wedded to the Greens.

In his media release today, Labor's forestry spokesperson has revealed that Labor want to continue to subsidise cable harvesting in Tasmania's forest industry – which amounts to around $4.8 million in taxpayers' money, per year.*

That’s money that should be going to our hospitals and our schools.

David Llewellyn says Labor wants bipartisanship on forest policy, but it is clear that he means another partnership with the Greens and not the Liberal Government.

His statement today shows that in spite of his own personal claims to the contrary, Labor is as committed to the job-destroying forest deal as it was before the election.

Only the Liberals have a Plan to save jobs in the forest industry and end the subsidies.

* David Llewellyn Media Release, 15 March 2017 – “Continue industry assistance for cable harvesting beyond the next financial year.”
