The 2017 Junction Arts Festival will once again shine the artistic spotlight on Northern Tasmania.
From today until September 10, the five-day festival adds colour, pizzazz and the totally unexpected to Tasmania’s vibrant events calendar.
The Hodgman Liberal Government has backed the festival with $1.25 million of support until 2021.
The multi-arts festival aims to take contemporary art and music out of theatres, galleries and traditional music venues and out into the streets and public spaces that make Launceston so special.
There are a number of fantastic events lined up, including many free events with something guaranteed to suit individual tastes.
Congratulations Creative Director Greg Clarke, Festival Chair Liz Frankham and the many hard working artists and volunteers who work tirelessly to make this event so special and recognized nationally and internationally.
The Hodgman Liberal Government has set a target of attracting 1.5 million visitors per year by 2020 and also encouraging them to stay longer, so supporting unique events and festivals such as the Junction Arts Festival is a major part of that strategy.
More than 6000 people attended events last year, including 8 per cent from interstate, and this year there has been an even stronger focus on bringing mainland visitors to Launceston.
